What is a post-dated check?

A post-dated check is any check that has a future date written on it. This future date acts as an instruction for the check amount to not be withdrawn from the check writer’s account until the date specified on the check. When post-dating checks, remember that there is no obligation to abide by the date written, and the check may be cashed at any time. Always make sure you have the funds in your account to cover the checks you write to avoid overdrawing your account.
