CEO Corner: Passion Starts with Education

Hi Everybody,

As a community credit union, my teammates and I are passionate about the members and communities that we serve each day. This means that our concerns go well beyond serving your basic financial needs. This month, we have hosted some exciting events that have helped us support one of our most important passions: education!

On June 12, MVCU held its annual charity golf tournament, and what a joy it truly was to spend a warm day with so many generous partners from our community. Thanks to the generosity of the participating golfers and sponsors, the tournament raised over $55,000 to support our credit union’s new program, Financial Edge, which offers free financial education courses to community organizations throughout eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. In addition, the program funds financial education courses for students at several schools throughout the region!

The very next day, MVCU held a ceremony for the recipients of the 2023 MVCU Scholarship Awards and the Lisa Lewis Goodman Community Spirit Award. Sixteen amazing, hardworking high school seniors received financial support for their future education. It was so incredible to meet these students, learn about their accomplishments and show them support as they embark on an awesome new chapter of their lives. That’s what credit unions are all about!

A few months ago, I shared some of the most important financial advice that I ever received from my father. After I paid off my car loan, he suggested that I continue making that same payment, but to place the money into a savings account instead. That way, the money I previously paid monthly for the car would now would build my savings!

This advice only scratches the surface of what our financial education program will provide for both students and community members. Helping our members pursue their goals and equip them with the financial skills needed to accomplish these goals is so important to our entire team here at MVCU. I am so proud to be a part of this movement.

If you are interested in any of our financial education programs, or applying for our scholarship program, please email communications@mvcu.com or visit www.mvcu.com/scholarship.

Thank you for being a member of our amazing community. There is so much to celebrate as we enter the fun season of summer!

Sincerely,

JH Sig
